Shiatsu is a hands on bodywork aiming to stimulate the mind, the body and emotions into a state of balance. It is a supportive, a dynamic and a holistic approach to the promotion of well-being. It provides a quiet space where one can reconnect with his/her own health and needs.
Shiatsu literally “means finger pressure” and it focuses on the experience of Qi and its use to bring harmony. It uses a variety of techniques from finger pressure to stretching along energetic pathways called “meridians”. Where a Qi imbalance occurs symptoms will arise, Shiatsu will stimulate the flow of Qi in the body and participate to the alleviation of the symptoms.
Shiatsu follows principles developed in Traditional Chinese Medicine such as the Five Elements Theory.
Shiatsu may help in a wide range of conditions such as
Stress
Back pain
Headaches / migraines
Whiplash injuries and neck stiffness
Joint pain and reduced mobility
Menstrual problems
Digestive problems
Asthmatic symptoms
Pregnancy / Childbirth
Low energy
Sports injuries
Depression/Anxiety
Insomnia
In my experience shiatsu, along with other therapies, has also proved helpful in helping fight addictions.
Shiatsu is usually practiced at floor level on a futon, couch or a specially designed chair. The client remains fully clothed during the session that usually last for about one hour (it includes case history taking)
To make the most of your Shiatsu session:
Do not have a heavy meal before or just after the session
Wear lose clothing preferably in natural fibres
Do not consume intoxicant before and after the session
Allow yourself the time to enjoy the effect of shiatsu by taking a gentle walk or resting.
