A word on Addiction:

A lot has been written about addiction whether it is in fact addictive behaviours, substance misuse, or chemical addiction.  Addiction may also be perceived as misguided attempt at solutions. Whether it is sugar, stimulants, alcohol or drugs, addiction is sometimes a way to disconnect from an unmet yearning or painful situation, it might also be a way to find some comfort or a call for help. The elements on which addictive behaviours or addiction are fixed are often destructive because of their nature (drugs, alcohol…) or because of their misuse (sex, food, sport, work…).

Addiction needs to be looked at on different levels, and treating addiction often implies the need for medical treatment, counselling amongst other methods. There are no quick fixes to treating addictions and it is possible that people trying to free themselves from addiction go in fact from one addiction to another and what remains is the addictive behaviour.

Shiatsu, Ear Acupuncture and appropriate Nutrition are efficient adjuncts to treatment already in place. Ear Acupuncture is regularly used in detoxification protocols. Shiatsu aims at stimulating the body, mind and emotions to find balance, because of its nature it helps to create a space where the client can feel safe and able to connect with his/her health and needs. Finally nutrition is an essential part of one’s health, it fully participate in breaking the cycle of dependency to stimulants and is crucial to bodily functions.

Addiction needs to be tackled on all fronts if freedom from it is to be found; all tools available to overcome addiction are necessary at one stage or another. Connecting with one’s needs and interconnecting with others leads a step closer to understanding the source of the suffering. Changing is an ongoing process; nothing is fixed, not even addiction and dependency
